Pentatropis bentii (N.E.Br.) Liede

This species is native to N Somalia, extending to S Arabian Peninsula. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 2 species of Pentatropis found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Perennial herb ; with clear latex . Stems creeping , yellowish-green , glabrous or glabrescent . Leaves opposite , 10–30 × 10−25 mm , petiolate , fleshy , broadly oblong to orbicular , apex obtuse with a mucro , base rounded to somewhat cordate , margins entire , grey-green , glabrous . Inflorescences 2–4 , in axillary clusters ; pedicel 2−3 mm . Flowers pale yellow to greenish-yellow ; calyx 5-lobed , lobes 2−3 mm , triangular , acute ; corolla pale yellow to greenish-yellow , with a narrow tube , obscuring the gynostegium , 5-lobed ; lobes 4−8 mm , linear-oblong , spreading , the ends spiralling , glabrous outside , densely minutely pubescent inside ; corona greenish , in one series , of 5 laterally compressed segments ± as long as the gynostegium , fleshy ; stamens united to form a column ; pollinia single in each anther locule , pendulous . Fruit follicles , solitary or rarely paired , ± 5 cm , ± erect , ovoid narrowing into an acute tip . Seeds flattened with a white tuft of hairs at the tip . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 3) .
