Ageratum conyzoides L.

This species is native to Mexico; naturalised throughout the tropics. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There is only one known species of Ageratum occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Annual herb ; up to 70 cm high , faintly aromatic , pilose , with shallow , fibrous roots . Stems erect to ascending , often red , sparsely pilose and whitish pubescent , especially at nodes . Leaves opposite , 2–6 × 1 . 5–4 cm , ovate , acute to rounded , basally cuneate , margins crenate ; petiole up to 3 cm , thin , pubescent . Inflorescences arranged in cymosely branched clusters . Flowers 35–80 , white to violet , tubular , perfect , glabrous . Fruit achenes , 1–2 mm long , 5-angled , black , scabrous on the ridges . Seeds pappus , 1 . 5-3 mm long , of 5(-6) rigid , scarious scales abruptly tapering into a scabrous awn . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 3) .
