Atractylis cancellata L.

This species is native to Canary Islands, Mediterranean area, Arabian Peninsula, Turkey, Iraq, Iran and W Pakistan. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 3 species of Atractylis found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Small thistle-like annual ; up to 5-20 cm high , arachnoid-tomentose . Stems branching from the base . Leaves 2 . 5 x 0 . 5 cm , lanceolate , prickly toothed at the margin . Inflorescences solitary or cluster of 3 to 4 flower heads covered by prickly bracts at the end of branches . Flowers with or purple corolla , tubular , perefect . Fruit achene , small , ± 3 mm long , elongated dry with a tuft of hair with a single seed . (Ref . ) .
