Bidens pilosa L.

This species is native to Tropical & Subtropical America; widely naturalized throughout the warm temperate and tropical regions of the world. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 2 species of Bidens found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

An erect annual herb ; up to 1 m tall . Stems erect , leafy , branching above , pale green or sometimes reddish , 4-angled , sparsely pubescent to glabrous . Leaves opposite , up to 10 x 5 cm , trifoliate ; leaflets ovate to ovate-lanceolate , terminal one the largest , acute with serrated margins . Inflorescences in laxly paniculiform terminal synflorescences , peduncles 8-10 cm long . Flowers white with yellow centres , often remain closed ; ray flowers (sometimes absent) 4-8 , strile ; disc flowers yellow , tubular , perfect . Fruit achenes , 4-12 mm long , slender , black , 4-angular , strongly adherent . Seeds pappus , of 2-4 retrorsely barbed , 2-3 mm long awns . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 3) .
