Dicoma schimperi (DC.) Baill. ex O.Hoffm. subsp. schimperi

This subspecies is native to NE Tropical Africa, extending northwards to Sudan, Sini, Jordan to Arabian Peninsula, Pakistan to W Himalaya. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 2 species of Dicoma found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Woody based annual or perennial herb ; up to 70 cm high , somewhat caespitose . Stems erect , little or strongly branched . Leaves alternate , up to 4-5 x 1-1 . 5 cm , elliptic-lanceolate , narrowed into a petiole-like base , distally denticulate and with a mucronulate tip , grey-green , with rough edges . Inflorescences solitary at the end of stems . Flowers with yellowish to pinkish corola with reflexed lobes , perfect , tubular . Fruit achene , turbinate , up to 2 . 5 mm long , with white hairs to 2 mm . Seeds pappus , uniseriate , of ± 8-10 rigid , flattened , barbellate bristles to 7 mm long . (Ref . Not used traditionally. However, the well-known bird Bulbul, Pycnonotus sp., known collect the thin stems to make it’s nest (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).
