Annual herb ; up to 50 cm high , with white latex , and basally rosulate leaves . Stems solitary or several , erect , branching from the base , green , leafy ; branches slender , glabrous . Leaves obovate to spathulate or elliptic in outline , sinuate-dentate or pinnatifid to pinnatisect , 4–20 × 0 . 5–3 . 5 cm , decreasing in size and inscision towards stem apex , glabrous . Inflorescences with up to 20 flowers , ligulate , in a divaricately branched , corymbose synflorescence . Flowers usually pale yellow , sometimes (if in Oman ? ) lilac or bluish . Fruit achenes , (including beak) 6–7 mm long , body blackish , compressed , 3-ribbed on either side and wrinkled , up to 2 . 5 mm long , the pure white , filiform beak 3–4 . 5 mm long .
