Lasiopogon muscoides (Desf.) DC.

This species is native to Canary Islands, S Africa, Mediterranean, extending to Central Asia, Arabian Peninsula and Pakistan. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There is only one species of Lasiopogon occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Annual herb , forming small woolly mats . Stems prostrate or decumbent , much-branched from the base , filiform , leafy . Leaves minute , to 12 × 3 mm , spathulate , rounded , entire . Inflorescences in globose clusters surrounded but not exceeded by the leaves at the end of the branches . Flowers purple ; the outer flowers in several rows , filiform , pistillate ; the inner flowers 5–6 tubular , perfect . Fruit achenes , ± 0 . 5 mm long , obovoid , compressed . Seeds pappus , ± 1–2 mm long , of a single series of entirely plumose bristles . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 3) .
