Launaea capitata (Spreng.) Dandy

This species is native to Canary Islands, extending eastwards to NW India. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 12 species of Launaea found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Annual rosette herb ; up to 15(–40) cm long , with white latex and clustered , subsessile capitula in the centre of the rosette . Stems a few to several , procumbent to ascending or erect . Leaves rosette , up to 15 × 5 cm , spathulate , sinuate-dentate to runcinate , margins denticulate . Inflorescences globose , nodding at fruiting . Flowers bright yellow . Fruit achenes , 3–4 . 5 mm long , pericarp of soft tissue , winged . Seeds pappus , 4–7 mm long , of bristles caducous together with the pappus disk . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 3) .
