Launaea castanosperma F.G.Davies

This species is native to S Arabian Peninsula. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 12 species of Launaea found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Perennial herb or subshrub ; up to ± 1 m high , with white latex . Stems robust , erect , almost leafless , long , thin , sparingly branched . Leaves in a basal rosette or crowded basally , up to 11 × 6 cm , obovate to broadly spathulate with rounded apex , sinuate-dentate and denticulate . Inflorescences solitary at the end of the branches . Flowers yellow . Fruit achenes , 2 . 5–3 . 5 mm long , bulky , inner glabrous and pale , marginal densely covered with stiff , coarse , narrowly triangular brown papillae . Seeds pappus , 8–10 mm long , of cottony hairs and a few caducous bristles . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 3) .
