Launaea intybacea (Jacq.) Beauv.

This species is native to Tropical & Subtropical Old World; introduced elsewhere. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 12 species of Launaea found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

An erect glabrous annual herb , with white latex . Stems erect , hollow , leafy in lower part , divaricately branched above . Leaves basal leaves obovate to spathulate , obtuse to acute , sinuate-dentate to runcinate ; stem leaves smaller , lanceolate , sagittately auriculate . Inflorescences on wiry , short peduncles to sessile , at fruiting often clustered at the nodes . Flowers pale yellow ; anther tube without appendages 1 . 1–1 . 3 mm long . Fruit achenes , 3–4 . 5 mm long , the inner greyish , weakly wrinkled , attenuate to shortly rostrate , the marginal usually black , sharply wrinked , with a beak 1/8–1/4 of the achene length . Seeds pappus , 7–8 mm long , of downy hairs and bristles . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 3) .

الاستخدامات


Known as a good treatment to stop the bleeding from fresh wounds and bleeding nose. The leaves are edible as alternative for radish. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).
