Launaea massauensis (Fresen.) Sch.Bip. ex Kuntze

This species is native to E Mediterranean extending to S Pakistan and Arabian Peninsula, NE Tropical Africa to Kenya. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 12 species of Launaea found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Annual herb ; up to 15–70 cm high , with white latex . Stems usually single , erect , leafy , densely and divaricately branched distally . Leaves basal leaves crowded , up to 18 × 6 cm , ovate to spathulate , sinuate-dentate to deeply lyrate or runcinate , with rounded apex ; cauline leaves deeply clasping the stem , otherwise similar . Inflorescences all on capillaceous peduncles 1–3 cm long , with 7–14 flowers only . Flowers pale to medium yellow , anther tube without appendages 0 . 8–1 . 2 mm long . Fruit achenes , 2–4 mm long , the inner smooth to slightly wrinkled , pale , the marginal sharply wrinkled , dark brown to black . Seeds pappus , 4–5 . 5 mm long , of downy hairs and bristles .
