Launaea mucronata subsp. cassiniana (Jaub. & Spach) N. Kilian

This subspecies is native to N Africa, extending to S Pakistan and Arabian Peninsula. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 12 species of Launaea found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Conspicuously greyish-glaucous annual herb ; up to 50 cm high , with white latex . Stems erect , divaricately branched distally . Leaves cauline , spathulate , irregularly deeply pinnately divided , with narrow , acute segments , acute apex and cochleate , pinnatifid , auriculate base , margin sinuate-dentate and undulate . Inflorescences on peduncles mostly 3–6 cm long . Flowers bright yellow . Fruit achenes , 3–7 mm long , the inner with papillose wrinkle lines and with a slightly ventricose tubular base , the marginal densely papillose . Seeds pappus , 4-7(-9) mm long , caducous , of ± 20-30 bristles . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 3) .
