Osteospermum vaillantii (Decne) Norl.

This species is native to S Jordan, extending to NE & E Tropical Africa, Arabian Peninsula. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There is only one species of Osteospermum occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Annual to pauciennial herb ; up to 60 cm , viscid and aromatic , glandular-hairy . Stems erect , leafy , branching , densely glandular and hairy . Leaves alternate , to 50 × 25 mm , lanceolate to oblanceolate , subentire to dentate , base cuneate , semiamplexicaul . Inflorescences solitary at the end of the branches , on peduncles to 10 cm long , nodding at maturity . Flowers yellow , ray flowers pistillate , ray lamina 6–8 mm long ; disc flowers functionally male , tubular . Fruit achenes , ± 10 mm long , body slender-clavate with echinulate surface and 3 membranous , reddish wings to 4 mm wide . Seeds pappus , absent . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 3) .
