Phagnalon schweinfurthii Sch.Bip. ex Schweinf. var. schweinfurthii

This subspecies is native to Sudan, Eritrea, Egypt, Arabian Peninsula, Iran, extending to Turkmenistan and Pakistan. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There is only one species of Phagnalon occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Small woody shrublet ; up to 30 cm high . Stems slender , branches loosely to densely white-tomentose . Leaves alternate , up to 35 × 8 mm , linear-elliptic to spathulate , subentire to remotely denticulate , usually with undulate and revolute margins , upper surface green , subglabrous , lower surface sparsely hairy and green to densely white-tomentose . Inflorescences compact heads on long stalks , surrounded by brown bracts . Flowers yellow and apically often tinged purple , or purple , or flesh coloured , with yellow styles and stamina , never fully open ; outer flowers pistillate , filiform ; central flowers perfect , tubular . Fruit achenes , ± 1 mm long , hairy . Seeds pappus , of 5–7 scabrous bristles , ± 6–7 mm long . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 3) .
