An erect perennial , or shrub ; up to 3 m tall , usually hairy , may lean over . Stems and branches erect , pilose , glandular , rarely glabrous . Leaves alternate , up to 7 × 3 cm , rough , lanceolate , dentate or entire , acute , with attenuate auriculate base . Inflorescences cluster at the end of leafless stalks . Flowers pink , aromatic ; marginal flowers pistillate , filiform , 3(–4)-lobed ; disk flowers perfect , tubular , 5-lobed . Fruit achenes , ± 1 mm long , ± cylindric , hairy , those of the disk flowers often vestigial . Seeds pappus , 4–6 mm long , of 10–25 barbellate bristles , those of the disk flowers often distally plumose , caducous . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 3) .
