Tridax procumbens L.

This species is native to Mexico, extending to Tropical America. (Ref. POWO; 2023); introduced to tropical, subtropical, and mild temperate regions worldwide. (Ref. https://en.wikipedia.org). There is only one species of Tridax occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Annual or small woody perennial herb ; up to 30 cm high , with a firm taproot . Stems cylindrical , often purplish , sparsely and patently long- and white-pubescent . Leaves opposite , petiolate , narrowly ovate or ovate , often slightly 3-lobed , apex acute to acuminate , grey/green , with dense white hair . Inflorescences solitary arising in the leaf nodes with no stalk . Flowers pale yellow or white with yellow centres ; ray flowers 5-6 , female ; disc flowers numerous , dense , erect . Fruit achenes , narrowly obovoid , black , 2–2 . 5 mm long , hairy . Seeds pappus of many unequal plumose bristles 2 . 5–3 mm long in marginal florets . (Ref . POWO ; 2023) .
