Volutaria sinaica (DC.) Wagenitz

This species is native to N Africa , extending to Sahara and Arabian Peninsula. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 2 species of Volutaria found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Annual herb ; up to 40 cm high . Stems erect , leafy . Leaves up to 11 × 3 cm , spathulate to elliptic , deeply sinuate-dentate to pinnatifid , with bristly hairs , the lower leaves attenuate into a petiole up to 2–3 cm long . Inflorescences soiltary at the end of the branches . Flowers with marginal flowers filiform with longish lobes , whitish to purplish , sterile ; disk flowers purplish , tubular , bisexual ; rarely all flowers white . Fruit achenes , 4–5 mm long , brown , with 1 . 2–1 . 5 mm long , stiff hairs ; hilum basal or almost so . Seeds pappus , ± 4 mm long , of several acute , denticulate , purplish scales . (Ref .
