A tree ; up to 10(–30) m tall . Stems and branches smooth or slightly striate , lenticellate , glabrous to pubescent or tomentose ; bark grey-brown , smooth , finely longitudinally fissured . Leaves 9–15-foliolate ; leaflets ± elliptic , 3–16 x 1 . 5–9 cm , acute to acuminate at the apex . Inflorescences conspicuous flaming , 13-45-flowered ; peduncle lenticellate , with prominent scars left by fallen pedicels , glabrous to densely tomentose ; Bracts lanceolate , 1–2 x 0 . 2–4 cm . bracts and bracteoles with scattered peltate glands ± 1 mm wide . Flowers showy reddish-orange ; calyx 4–5 . 5 cm long ; Corolla orange red with a yellow border , 8–15 cm long , 4 . 5–7 cm wide at mouth of tube . Fruit capsule , 17–27 x 3 . 5–7 cm .
