Cordia crenata Delile subsp. crenata

This subspecies is native to Niger, extending to Eritrea and N Uganda, Arabian Peninsula, eastwards to India. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 8 species of Cordia found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Shrub or small tree , 1 . 5–6 m tall , with pale greyish brown bark . Stems and young shoots ± glabrous or adpressed velvety hairy , later glabrescent . Leaves alternate , or crowded in short shoots , 1–11 × 0 . 8–8 cm , broadly elliptical to obovate to almost rounded , base rounded to cuneate , apex emarginate , margins entire to crenate to dentate , puberulous to glabrous to ± scabrid ; petiole 5–10 mm . Inflorescences in corymb like inflorescence with a short peduncle ; pedicels 2–3 mm . Flowers male , bisexual , greenish-yellow , funnel-shaped . Male flowers: calyx 3–4 mm , funnel shaped , lobes triangular , glabrous ; corolla greenish-yellow , funnel-shaped , 5-lobed ; tube 3 . 5–4 mm , lobes 4 . 5 mm , ovate-oblong ; ovary rudimentary ; style absent . Bisexual flowers: calyx 4–5 mm , funnelshaped , lobes triangular , glabrous outside , minutely pubescent inside ; fruiting calyx 6 . 5–9 mm wide ; corolla tube 4–5 mm , lobes 3–4 mm , oblong ; ovary 4-locular , with 1 seed in each but usually 1 developing ; style 4-branched .
