Cordia sebestena L.

This species is native to Florida, extending to Caribbean, Mexico to Venezuela; introduced and cultivated elsewhere. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 8 species of Cordia found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Dense , evergreen shrub or tree ; up to 8 m tall , with round to vase-shaped crown . Stems with somewhat drooping branches . Leaves alternate , simple , 8–16 × 4–10 cm , dark green , leathery , ovate , margins undulate , upper surface rough . Inflorescences in terminal cymes . Flowers orange-red , funnel-shaped ; petals 5 to 7 , irregular ; lobes 5–7 ; stamens 5–7 , short , yellow-orange . Fruit drupe , 2–3 cm , fragrant , cream , ovoid , 2 - 4 seeded . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 3) .
