Cordia sinensis Lam.

This species is native to Africa, extending to Indian Subcontinent; introduced and cultivated elsewhere. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 8 species of Cordia found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Shrub or small tree ; up to 5 m tall , often with drooping branches and grey , flaking bark . Stems much-branched , young shoots smooth , old ones with longitudinal fissures . Leaves opposite , (sub)opposite or alternate , oblong to obovate , greyish-green with pale hairs on both surfaces , margins entire or with widely spaced teeth on the apical half . Inflorescences in few-flowered , terminal or axillary . Flowers fragrant (sweet smell) , greenish-white to pale yellow , female or bisexual . Fruit drupe , 12–15 x 8–11 mm , ovoid to subglobose , yellow , orange or bright red , fleshy . Seeds 1-4 , hard , rough , yellowish cream . (Ref . POWO ; 2023) .
