Echiochilon callianthum Lönn

This species is native to the Arabian Peninsula (E Central Yemen & Oman). (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 7 species of Echiochilon found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Perennial herb ; up to 40 cm tall , with a ± woody base . Stems erect to ascending , branched , covered with spreading to adpressed disc-based hairs and stalked glandular hairs . Leaves alternate , 15–17 × 2–3 mm , oblanceolate , base cuneate to attenuate , apex acute , patent , covered with disc-based hairs . Inflorescences in erect cymes ; pedicels 1–1 . 5 mm . Flowers white with purple waist , zygomorphic ; calyx about half as long as the corolla tube , 5-lobed , lobes ± unequal , ± free , 5–8 mm , one of the abaxial ones largest , adpressed disc-based hairy ; corolla white with purple waist , purple veined , 9–12 mm , strongly zygomorphic , obliquely funnel shaped ; tube 6–9 mm , hairy and glandular , limb with spreading rounded lobes ; stamens attached at throat at different heights ; anthers included . Fruit nutlets , ± 2 mm , ovoid , with a rostrate apex , keeled on the ventral side , reddish-brown to light brown , smooth to tuberculate , 1–4 developing . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 3) .
