Euploca ovalifolia (Forssk.) Diane & Hilger

This species is native to Türkiye, extending to Egypt, Dry Tropical Africa, Madagascar, Arabian Peninsula, Indian Subcontinent, estwards to Indo-China, Lesser Sunda Islands, Solomon Islands. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 3 species of Euploca found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Perennial herb ; up to 40 cm high , with with a thin rootstock . Stems ascending to decumbent , branched , ± woody at base , grey-green , covered with retrorse hairs throughout . Leaves alternate , 7–25 × 3–9 mm , greyish-green , obovate to oblong-ovate , base cuneate and tapering into the petiole , apex obtuse , margins entire , densely covered with retrorse hairs ; petiole to 8 mm long . Inflorescences terminal , often paired , up to 12 cm long , flowers in scorpioid cymes ; bracts absent . Flowers white , tubular , subsessile ; calyx 5-lobed , persistent ; lobes free to base , 1 . 5–2 mm , one lobe larger than the others , lanceolate , densely hairy ; corolla white , tubular , 5-lobed ; tube ± 2 . 5mm , hairy on the outside ; lobes small , 0 . 6–1 mm , rounded , overlapping ; stamens attached below the middle of corolla tube ; stigma sessile , conical . Fruit nutlets , 4 , 1 . 7–2 mm , ovoid , flattened , retrorsely white hairy . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 3) .
