Leaves alternate , 5–60 × 2–16 mm , linear to linear-lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate , base tapering into a short petiole , 1–3 mm , apex acute , crenulate-undulate at margins , sometimes margins revolute , young leaves flat , mature fleshy sometimes semi-terete , both surfaces covered with long and short bulbous-based hairs , denser on the nerves and margins , dark green to blackish-green . Inflorescences terminal or axillary ; flowers sessile in dense simple or branched scorpioid cymes , 1 . 5–3 cm , often straightening and somewhat elongating and becoming lax in fruit ; bracts absent .
