Heliotropium calcareum Stocks

This species is native to Arabian Peninsula, extending to S Iran, eastwards to India. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 10 species of Heliotropium found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Perennial herb ; up to 35 cm , with a woody base . Stems erect to ascending , branching from base , grey tomentose with short adpressed and longer spreading tuberculate hairs . Leaves alternate , greyish-green , 15–36 × 12–24 mm , ovate to ovate-oblong , base cuneate , apex obtuse , margins entire to undulate , densely tomentose especially on the nerves ; nerves impressed ; petiole to 25 mm long . Inflorescences terminal , often paired , up to 25 cm long , flowers in scorpioid cymes , compact above , becoming lax below ; bracts absent . Flowers white , tubular ; calyx 5-lobed , ± persistent ; lobes free to base , 2–2 . 5 mm , lanceolate , densely tomentose with tuberculate hairs ; corolla white , tubular , 5-lobed ; tube 2 . 5–3mm , hairy on the outside , glabrous inside ; lobes small , 0 . 6–1 mm , rounded , overlapping ; stamens attached slightly above the base of corolla tube . Fruit nutlets , 4 , ovoid , retrorsely short white hairy . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 3) .
