Heliotropium subspinosum Thulin & A.G.Mill.

This species is native to N Somalia, extending to S Arabian Peninsula. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 10 species of Heliotropium found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Shrub or subshrub ; up to 1 m tall , often forming large cushions . Stems ± erect to hanging , much branched , with a whitish cracked bark , covered with adpressed to spreading tubercle-based hairs . Leaves alternate , 8(–15) × 5(–13) mm , greyish-green , elliptic to ovate or suborbicular , apex obtuse , margins entire or shallowly crenate , base cuneate tapering into the petiole , covered with adpressed to spreading tubercle-based hairs , venation obscure ; petiole to 2 . 5 mm long . Inflorescences terminal , in 1–4-flowered up to 10(–40) mm long simple or sometimes paired cymes , rigid , becoming spinescent ; bracts absent . Flowers yellowish , sessile ; calyx 5-lobed , persistent ; lobes free to base , 1–2 . 5 mm , ± unequal , ovate to lanceolate , hairy without and within ; corolla yellowish , 3–4 mm , tubular , 5-lobed , pubescent outside ; tube cylindrical , hairy on the outside ; lobes small , 0 . 5–1 mm , ovate , spreading ; stamens attached below the middle of corolla tube , largely exerted ; stigma sessile , conical .
