Paracaryum caelestinum Benth. & Hook.f.

This species is native to SW Europe, the Middle East, Egypt, eastwards to western China and western Himalayas. (Ref. Flora of Oman; vol.3). There is one species of Paracaryum occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Annual or perennial herb ; 1–1 . 5 m tall . Stems erect , branched , sparsely hairy with tuberculate based hairs , the younger branches more so . Leaves alternate , (5–) 15–20 × (3 . 5–) 15–19 cm , large , base cuneate , tapering into the petiole , apex obtuse , margins entire , adpressed pubescent with tubercule-based hairs ; petiole ± 12 cm . Inflorescences in paired , up to 9 cm long ; pedicels recurved in fruit . Flowers white with a blue centre ; calyx ± 5 mm , 5-lobed to base , lobes ovate-lanceolate ; corolla white with a blue centre , ± campanulate , lobes 5 mm , spreading , with appendages in throat ; ovary gynobasic , stigma capitate . Fruit nutlets , ± 2 mm , ± globose , margin winged , inner margin , denticulate , central area with whitish glochidiate spines . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 3) .
