Brassica juncea (L.) Czern.

This species is native to Caucasus; introduced and cultivated worldwide. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 3 species of Brassica found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Annual herb ; up to 70 cm tall . Stems erect , long , ± glabrous , purplish or sparsely hairy below . Leaves stalked ; lower leaves 3-15 x 0 . 5-4 cm , ovate to obovate , entire to lyrate-pinnatisect , ± glaucous , petiolate ; upper leaves entire , petiolate . Inflorescences in terminal racems ; pedicels up to 8 mm long . Flowers perfect , bright yellow ; sepals 4 , free , green , oblong , ± spreading ; petals 4 , free , pale yellow , clawed , 6-10 mm ; stamens 6 ; ovary with 10-20 ovules . Fruit siliqua , 20-75 x 2-4 mm , erect , narrowly cylindric , beaked . Seeds 1-1 . 3 mm in diam . , subspherical , dark brown , globose . (Ref . POWO ; 2023) .
