Lepidium didymum L.

This species is native to Peru, extending to Brazil and S South America; introduced and naturalised world wide. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 4 species of Lepidium found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Annual or biennial herb ; up to 40 cm high , with slender tap-root . Stems ascending to prostrate , diffusely branched , puberulous with simple hairs . Leaves up to 3 cm , rosulate , 1-2-pinnatisect ; segments ovate to elliptic , serrate to entire . Inflorescences in 30-60-flowered dense racemes , elongating to c . 6 cm ; pedicels 3-4 mm . Flowers minute , whitish to greenish ; sepals not saccate ; petals 0 . 5 mm ; stamens 2–4 . Fruit silicula , 1 . 5×2 . 5 mm , bi-lobed , finely reticulately rugose , indehiscent , 1-seeded . Seeds 1 x 0 . 5 mm , orange-brown , flattened-ellipsoid . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 1) .
