Raphanus raphanistrum subsp. sativus (L.) Domin

This subspecies is native to Mediterranean region; introduced, cultivated and naturalised worldwide. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 2 species of Raphanus found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Annual herb ; up to 5-20(-50) cm high with a tuberous tap-root . Stems erect , often simple from base . Leaves with lower leaves 5–20 cm , variable in shape but generally lyrate-pinnatisect , lobed ; upper leaves narrower , simple , sessile . Inflorescences in erect many-flowered racemes , up to 90 cm tall . Flowers about 15 mm across , white or yellow or pink ; sepals 5 . 5-10 × 1-2 mm , glabrous or sparsely pubescent ; petals 14-17 mm , white , yellow or pink , usually with dark veins ; filaments 5-12 mm ; anthers 1 . 5-2 mm . Fruit siliqua , 2-jointed ; upper joint 20–50 mm , oblong , beaked , ridged longitudinally , not inflated , constricted in between the seeds and breaking into 1-seeded segments ; lower joint inconspicuous ; beak slender , 1-2 . 5 cm . Seeds 2 . 5-4 mm diam , globose or ovoid . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 1) .
