Sinapis arvensis L.

This species is native to W, C and S Europe, extending to N Africa, SW and C Asia; introduced and naturalised elsewhere. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There is one species of Sinapis occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Annual herb ; up to 60 cm tall . Stems branched , hispid , simple hairs . Leaves with lower leaves up to 20 cm , lyrate-pinnatisect , lobes irregularly serrate ; upper leaves oblong-lanceolate . Inflorescences 4-merous , in 20-40-flowered racemes ; pedicels 2–4 mm long . Flowers bright yellow ; sepals 4 ; petals 6–12 mm , yellow . Fruit siliqua , 18–45×2 . 5–4 mm , 2 jointed ; lower joint sub-cylindrical , torulose with a membranous septum , glabrous or retrorse-hispid , 8–16-seeded ; valves 3–7-nerved ; upper joint with a long beak . Seeds dark reddish-brown . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 1) .
