Sisymbrium irio L.

This species is native to Europe, extending to N China and Himalaya, Sahara, extending to N & NE Tropical Africa, Arabian Peninsula. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 2 species of Sisymbrium found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Annual herb ; up to 20–50(-60) cm high , glabrous . Stems erect or prostrate , sparsely pubescent to glabrescent , with simple hairs . Leaves with lower leaves pinnately lobed , variable in size , 3–15×1–4 cm , hastate ; upper leaves hastate . Inflorescences in many-flowered racemes , up to 30 cm long , ascending ; fruiting pedicel 3–10 mm , thinner than the fruit . Flowers yellow ; sepals not saccate , ± 2 mm long ; petals yellow , narrowly obovate , ± 3 mm . Fruit siliqua , 30–45 mm , linear , not tapering at the top , glabrous , 20–30-seeded , ascending . Seeds 0 . 7–0 . 8 mm long , narrowly ovoid , light red-brown , shining . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 1) .
