Scrambling shrub ; up to 1m tall , often found hanging from rocky cliffs . Stems up to 1 m in length and 2 m in width , with hooked spines ; young shoots velutinous at first , becoming glabrous . Leaves alternate , fleshy , thick , shiny , simple , ovate to ovate-lanceolate , acute tip , rounded at the base , entire margin , one or two thorns at the base . Inflorescences solitary , in the axils of leaves . Flowers sweetly fragrant , showy , white fading to deep pink ; sepals 4 , unequal ; petals 4 , white or cream becoming pink ; stamens 8-20 , exserted , violet-colored ; ovary borne on a 20-30 mm long gynophore . Fruit ovoid or obovoid , green turning deep red as it matures . Seeds many , brown . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 1) .
