Evergreen , straggling or climbing shrub ; up to 3 m tall , (rarely non-climbing) . Stems glabrous or rough by short stiff hairs , with lax sometimes decumbent or short erect branches . Leaves alternate , simple , leathery , pale green , narrowly oblong (rarely broadly elliptic in non-climbing plants) , acute to obtuse at the tip , mucronate , rounded at base , entire margin , glabrous , petiolate . Inflorescences in axillary or terminal racemes , rarely solitary and axillary . Flowers white , fragrant ; sepals 4 , oblong-ovate , green ; petals white or yellow-green ; stamens numerous , borne on a short androphore ; anthers 1–2 . 5 mm long ; ovary cylindrical , borne on a gynophore . Fruit cylindrical , very torulose , usually glabrous , irregularly constricted in between the seeds , red when mature , often somewhat twisted . Seeds normally in 4 rows . (Ref .
