Erect , annual herb ; up to 25 cm tall . Stems slender , often short , dichotomously branched , often reddish , hairy to sparsely pubescent . Leaves opposite , oblong-lanceolate to spathulate , acute tip , entire margins , sparsely pubescent . Inflorescences in involucrate heads . Flowers purple or white ; calyx shortly stipitate , scabrid ; corolla tubular , 5-lobed , lobes equal in size , hispid on the outside ; corona with 19-22 pubescent nerves ; stamens 4 , exserted ; ovary inferior . Fruit achene adnate to the involucel crowned with the persistent corona . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 3) .
