Woody based , erect annual herb ; up to 30 cm high , all parts minutely erect-puberulent , apparently sometimes flowering in its first year . Stems scabrid , ascending to erect , branching at the base , spreading , forming small cushion-shaped plants . Leaves opposite , simple , linear to lanceolate , rarely ovate or obovate , white-hrsute , base slightly rounded , apex acute , soon glabrescent , sometimes leaf fascicles present at the nodes . Inflorescences in terminal cymes ; the flower clusters appearing as white hairy balls at maturity . Flowers bracts elongating to 15 mm in fruit ; sepals oblong , papillose , rigid , midrib ending in recurved spine ; petals white , linear , shorter than the sepals by 1/3 ; anthers exserted at anthesis ; style as long as anthers . Fruit capsule , narrowly flattened , obovoid , dark brown , indehiscent . Seeds c . 1 . 2 mm long , pale brown . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 1) .
