Robust perennial herb ; up to 20-30 cm high , with a somewhat woody rootstock . Stems erect to ascending , simple to much branched from the base , greyish-green , minutely scabrid at least at first ; branches rigid , glabrous . Leaves opposite , simple , narrow or linear lanceolate , apex long acuminate , base sheathing on the swollen internodes , margin revolute , thickened , glabrous . Inflorescences solitary or in few-flowered cymes . Flowers bisexual , white or pale pink , fragrant ; bracts paired , margins scarious ; calyx tubular , veins 9-11 , apically 5 toothed ; petals 5 , free , spathulate-oblong , varied in colour from pale pink to dark pink , uniform or with a darker centre , with a frilled or pinked margin ; stamens 10 ; filaments distinct ; anthers 2-locular , dorsifixed , white ; ovary superior , unilocular . Fruit capsule , ovoid-cylindrical , dehiscing by 4 teeth . Seeds many , compressed dorsiventrally , blackish brown . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 1) .
