Leaves opposite , simple , fleshy , sessile , linear , subterete , apex with a small brown spine , glabrous . Inflorescences in globose heads , shortly pedunculate , 4–7-flowered . Flowers bracts similar to leaves , indurate ; sepals spine-tipped , indurate , woolly , adnate to the bracts , glabrous above , densely lanate below ; petals absent . Fruit capsule , c . 2 . 5 mm long , slightly papillose at the tup , enclosed within the indurate calyx . Seeds 2–2 . 5 x 1 . 5 mm , reniform , dark brown . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 1) .
