Delicate annual or sometimes a biennial herb ; up to 15 cm high , with slender taproots . Stems erect to diffusely spreading , slender , several branching from the base , glandular-pubescent . Leaves opposite , simple , linear to filiform , apex blunt to apiculate , not usually fasciculate , not or slightly fleshy . Inflorescences in terminal cymes . Flowers sepals green or purplish , ovate-lanceolate , glabrous or sparsely glandular , with scarious margins ; petals 5 , pink to light purple , more or less equalling the petals ; stamens 4-7 ; styles 0 . 4-0 . 6 mm . Fruit capsule , ovoid , greenish tan , slightly exceeding the calyx , 3-valved . Seeds 0-6-0 . 7 mm , dark brown to black , shiny , unwinged , rugulose to prominently tuberculate . (Ref .
