Intricately branched spiny low woody shrub ; up to 50cm . Stems much-branched ; branches strongly entangled with strong spines . Leaves sessile , grey-green , oblong to oblanceolate , base truncate to auriculate , apex acute , adpressed pubescent , deciduous . Flowers sessile , 1-6 in compact clusters , in the axils of spiny lateral branches ; sepals unequal , broadly ovate ; petals pink to violet , funnel-shaped , tube glabrous .
