Leaves opposite , sessile , linear-lanceolate , entire , acute to acuminate , united at the base to form a sheath around the nod , glabrous , ending in a whitish bristle . Inflorescence flowers 3-5-merous , on crowded leafy axillary shoots , 2 flowers arising in each leaf axil . Flowers sepals lanceolate , aristate , ending in a bristle ; petals free , oblong-lanceolate , white or greenish . Fruit follicle , 2-seeded . Seeds 2 per carpel , c . 0 . 4 mm long , ribbed . (Ref .
