Monoecious . Subshrub ; up to 40 cm tall . Stems pale brownish , swollen , woody , succulent , rough-ridged . Leaves reniform or shallowly 3-lobed , hispid , cordate at base , margins minutely denticulate or sinuate ; tendrils absent . Flowers male flowers in small sessile clusters ; female flowers solitary in the axils of leaves ; sepals linear-oblong ; petals greenish-yellow . Fruit sollitary , ovoid , with a cup at the base , softly pubescent , red when ripe . Seeds ovoid , c . 3 . 5 mm long . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 1) .
