Trailing or climbing annual herb . Stems trailing , up to 1 m long , hispid or lanate . Leaves broadly ovate or palmately 3-5-lobed , base cordate , margins ± sinuate-dentate , petiolate ; tendrils branched . Inflorescences monoecious . Flowers male flowers yellow , solitary or in 2–4-flowered fascicles ; female flowers solitary , pedicellate , yellow ; sepals linear ; petals yellow . Fruit ellipsoid or oblong-ellipsoid , glabrous , green to white with darker green longitudinal stripes , pale yellow when ripe ; flesh bitter or non-bitter . Seeds compressed , elliptic in outline , c . 4 . 2 mm long . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 1) .
