A herbaceous and perennial holoparasitic , erect fleshy fungus-like , dark red to dark purple plant ; up to 14 cm tall , faint bad smell . Stems with numerous triangular-lanceolate scales . Inflorescences erect , cylindrical , up to 12 x 4 cm , club-shaped mass . Flowers numerous , bisexual , sweet , slightly cabbage-like odour . Fruit nut , small , indehiscent . (Ref . POWO ; 2022) .
