Chrozophora oblongifolia (Delile) A.Juss. ex Spreng.

This species is native to NE Tropical Africa, Sinai, extending to Arabian Peninsula, Pakistan eastwards to NW India. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There is only one species of Chrozophora occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

An erect shrub , subshrub or woody herb ; up to 50 cm tall , covered in stiff hairs . Stems ± glabrous in the lower part , densely stellate-pubescent above . Leaves alternate , 25-90 x 8-55 mm , grey-green , ovate to ovate-oblong , apex acute or obtuse , base truncate , margin coarsely dentate , stalks and leaf are of equal length ; stipules filiform ; petiole 50-30 mm , densely stellate-pubescent . Inflorescences inconspicuous , borne in the leaf axils or terminally , up to 1 . 5 cm long . Flowers yellowish-green . Male flowers above in a short spike , dense , subsessile ; sepals lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate , stellate-pubescent ; petals lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate , yellowish . Female flowers at the base ; 1-3 flowered on a short peduncle ; sepals ± 2 mm , linear-lanceolate or lanceolate ; petals linear-lanceolate or lanceolate . Fruit capsule , 5-7 mm in diameter , 3-lobed , muricate , covered with peltate scales , stellate hairs and tubercles , 3-seeded . Seeds 4-5 x 3-4 mm , triangular-ovoid , coarsely tuberculate , dark brown . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 2) .
