Dalechampia scandens var. cordofana (Hochst. ex Webb) Müll.Arg.

This variety is native to Cape Verde, Tropical Africa, Arabian Peninsula, S Pakistan, eastwards to NW India. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There is only one species of Dalechampia occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Slender perennial climber or low-growing shrub ; up to 3 m long , growing from a woody rootstock , glabrous or pubescent throughout . Stems trailing , pubescent and often with nettle-like hairs . Leaves alternate , yellow-green , palmately deeply lobed , each lobe 3-65 x 11-25 mm , oblong-lanceolate , apex acute , margin serrate , pubescent ; petiole 30-50 mm , pubescent . Inflorescences axillary on peduncles 1-15 cm long . Flowers monoecious , cupped in two pale green or yellow-green bracts with serrated edges and dark green veins . Male flowers in a cluster of 5 cymes , surrounded by an involuce of 4 fused (or free) bracts and 1-5 female flowers surrounded by fused bracts or sterile flowers ; calyx 4-6-lobed , involucre 5-8 mm across . Female flowers 3 , bracts ± 3 mm , ciliate , margins glandular ; sepals 6 , ± 8 mm , margins with fine gland-tipped lobes , stinging hairs on the margins .
