Euphorbia falcata L.

This species is native to Macaronesia, Mediterranean, extending to W Himalaya, Europe to Mongolia; naturalised in other parts of the world. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 28 species of Euphorbia found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

An erect annual herb ; up to 40 cm tall , glabrous , glaucous with a tap- root . Stem erect , branched near the base . Leaves lanceolate , entire margin , mostly green-blue ; lower leaves opposite , patulate , broad and small ; upper and median leaves alternate , lanceolate-cuneate , tapered into a thin point , early fall , glaucous ; whitish latex . Inflorescences in 3-5 rayed terminal umbel with numerous axillary flowering branches . Flowers yellow-green with a yellow crescent-shaped gland ; male flowers many ; female flowers single . Fruit capsule , 2–3 × 1 . 8–3 mm , 3-angled , smooth , glabrous , keeled , pale green . Seeds 1 . 2–1 . 8 × 0 . 7–1 . 1 mm , grey , ovoid , keg-like , sub-4-angled ; red-brown and deep furrows on the sides . (Ref . https://www . aphis . usda . gov) .
