Euphorbia hirta L.

This species is native to Tropical & Subtropical America; introduced world wide. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 28 species of Euphorbia found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Annual herb ; up to 15 cm tall , usually prostrate with white appressed hairs . Stems simple or sparsely branched , prostrate to ascending , pubescent with longer , pale yellow multicellular hairs , reddish green above . Leaves opposite , 10-40 x 5-15 mm , ovate to ovate-oblong , apex acute , base tapering , margin finely toothed , sparsely pubescent on both surfaces , reddish-green , 3-nerved from the base ; stipules subulate . Inflorescences cyathia in dense capitate terminal and axillary cymes on peduncle reaching up to 20 mm . Flowers cyathia ; glands minute , green to purplish , with minute entire white to pink appendages ; male flowers bracteoles linear , fimbriate ; female flower ovary shortly pedicellate . Fruit capsule , 1-1 . 5 mm , acutely 3-lobed , appressed-pubescent . Seeds 0 . 8 x 0 . 4 mm , oblong-conical , with shallow transverse wrinkles , pinkish brown . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 2) .
