Glabrous annual herb ; up to 30 cm high . Stems erect , slender , simple or 2-branched from the base . Leaves alternate , up to 2 . 5 cm , pale green , ovate , suborbicular or obovate , apex obtuse to retuse , base rounded to cuneate , margin entire ; petiole up to 1 cm ; upper leaves ovate , ovate-deltoid , sessile . Inflorescences cymes axillary and in terminal 3-branched umbels forking many times . Flowers cyathia ; glands green , with 2 appendages on each side ; male flowers bracteoles linear , with minutely ciliate tips ; female flowers ovary glabrous . Fruit capsule , ± 2 mm , deeply 3-lobed , truncate base , with 2 ridges or wings on each keel . Seeds 1 . 5 × 1 mm , oblong-ovoid with longitudinal rows of deep pits , reddish-brown becoming grey .
