Euphorbia riebeckii Pax

This species is native to Arabian Peninsula (Oman & S Yemen). (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 28 species of Euphorbia found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Dense , spiny mound , low growing shrub or subshrub ; up to 80 cm tall , with zigzagging raddish stems and milky sap . Stems intricate , raddish or grey-brown ; lateral stems ending in spines . Leaves opposite , small , 3-8 x 1 . 5-3 mm , grey-green , ± sessile , oblong to obovate , apex obtuse , base rounded , unequal , margins entire , glabrous ; stipules subulate , entire . Inflorescences solitary , cupular , borne at the end of the branches . Flowers cyathia ; glands , red , with small hairy appendages . Fruit capsule , ± 1 mm , round , 3-lobed , glabrous . (Ref . Known used for body dehydration where two or three stems burnt, and moistend with unknown local materials including; “sal bakesh” or “sal sl wai”, pounded together and used as a body rub. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden). In Omani studies: Ghazanfar (2007) wrote that: "Heavily browsed by goats and camels; locally common in the eastern part of the Jiddat al Harasis where it is considered to be good for camels and goats". (Ref. Flora of Oman, vol.2).
